FE(DI)²xA: understanding generative art within the everyday image world

Every day, we are exposed to hundreds of images through social media, advertising, news, cinema, personal archives, memes, and artificial intelligence.

Generative art does not emerge outside this visual environment. It reworks forms, symbols, memories, stereotypes, and cultural references already circulating within it.

Stigmamente APS has therefore developed FE(DI)²xA – Fluid Heuristic Digital Dispositive for Art: a reflective and heuristic framework for exploring how a generative image emerges through the interaction of:

• source images;
• prompts;
• memory and visual culture;
• generative systems;
• authorial choices;
• audience interpretation;
• successive transformations and iterations.

FE(DI)²xA does not treat the generated image as an isolated or definitive product. It considers it a provisional trace of a process involving people, technologies, cultural references, and social contexts.

The framework can support:

• visual education and media literacy;
• critical AI literacy;
• participatory art and co-creation;
• the inclusion of people with different communication styles;
• research on authorship, stigma, and social representations;
• Erasmus+ workshops and Horizon Europe experimental activities.

FE(DI)²xA supports a transition from image exposure to critical understanding:
