Young Persons with Restless Moods - XXI European Depression Day

Main Topic for 2024 : Young Persons with Restless Moods

Every year, the European Day on Depression proposes a key theme to reflect on and with which to make appropriate in-depth analyses on the proposed topics. This year we wanted to underline the importance of dealing with a youthful theme on mood disorders by approaching it in a broad sense, precisely because mood disorders and depressive illnesses usually have a youthful onset.

The theme of "restlessness" is a key topic in the knowledge of the problems of unstable mood and depressive disorders; it is the cognitive basis of states of internal agitation and anxiety, with the related symptomatology (internal tension and muscular tension, irritability, apathy, insomnia, hyperactivity of thoughts, substance abuse, antisocial behavior), problems that frequently have a youthful onset. Therefore, understanding their characteristics early on can only lead us to first gain knowledge and then make an early diagnosis of these pathologies in young people.

Unfortunately, tragic events involving young people often come to the news, with stories of suicide, murder, rape, substance abuse; and with frequent presence of family members, from what we often read and hear, unaware of everything that was happening to their children. These are disorders that can and must be intercepted, identified, diagnosed and treated. The EDA Italia ONLUS association sets itself the goal of contributing to disseminating scientific and rigorous information on mood disorders to the general population.

Depression and mood disorders are very widespread illnesses that insinuate themselves into all social classes and at all ages. They contribute decisively to individual, family and social unease. The goal of the European Day on Depression is, as always, to make an important EuropeanDepressionAssociation contribution to providing information on the possibility of diagnosing and treating these disorders.
